Resources for Parents

For parents of a kinesthetic learner school work can become a constant struggle. Every day that backpacks come home with worksheets can turn into a stressful situation. While some kids learn from pencil and paper, others need to see and manipulate objects, not to mention move their bodies to learn. Taking the time to learn some tricks of the trade from professionals can make all the difference. By partnering with your child's teacher you can become better equipped to help your child with their unique learning style.

By involving movement as they listen and see, they will be more likely to comprehend and retain their lessons. Some examples include using objects to count such as beans or pennies for math, or jumping while learning letter sounds. Kinesthetic tools can be a motivating factor for kids with learning disabilities as many of them can be gamelike. If they enjoy the materials given to them they will continue to learn and achieve and make new goals for themselves.

Encourage your child to be an explorer and they will find opportunities to learn.

Here is a list of tools that you can use in the home to help your learner with homework:

Modeling clay
Building Blocks
Letter Blocks
Flash Cards
Dice
Beans (for counting)
