IDEA, IEPs, 504 Plans...what do they all mean for your student or child? The laws can sometimes be confusing. It is in everyone's best interest to become familiar with them. Having your student or child assessed is the first step. After that it's up to teachers, parents and district administrators to effectively educate the student. While there are few laws of note dealing specifically with kinesthetic learners, there are many legislative acts pertaining to assistive technology in special education. There are also many federally funded programs for technology in the classroom as well. The more you know about the rights of and opportunities available to your student or child, the greater the chance of developing a successful educational program. As all students are required to receive a free appropriate public education, parents and schools may interpret this in different ways. Advocating for a child with disabilities is a major challenge, so here are a few links that can provide information on the laws relating to special education.
